Kendal Mental Health Services – Provided by The Lighthouse
So, what’s the link between Kendal Mental Health Services and The Lighthouse Community Mental Health Hub (the Lighthouse)?
The Lighthouse was established in 2019 in response to the sudden closure of South Lakeland MIND. The unexpected shutdown of MIND left a gap in local support services in the town and the South Lakes area.
On opening our doors on 14 April 2019, we at the Lighthouse welcomed our first users, so the story began. The Lighthouse was registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 13 June 2019.
Based at Stricklandgate House in Kendal, the Lighthouse is unquestionably a much-needed local resource. We support anybody over 18 with their mental health and wellbeing. The charity supports Kendal and has a presence in Grange over Sands.
Structure, Governance and Management
Governed by a constitution and registered at the Charity Commission as a ‘CIO – Foundation’, the Lighthouse has Charity Number: 1183893.
As of October 2023, a Board of Trustees chaired by Fee Cameron runs the charity. The Board members have the skills and knowledge required to manage the Lighthouse effectively. Moreover, the charity’s conduct follows Charity Commission guidance for organisations established for public benefit.
Objectives
The purpose, intention, and overall objectives of the Lighthouse are:
To preserve and protect the mental/emotional health and wellbeing of people residing in South Lakeland who are struggling with mental/emotional health issues in particular by:
The provision of a Drop In and befriending service offering support, understanding, companionship and signposting, information and advocacy services in a safe, confidential and non judgemental environment.
Raising awareness among the general public of issues relating to the presevation and protection of good mental/emotional health and wellbeing by the provision of such activities or information as the Trustees shall deem appropriate.

Supporters of The Lighthouse and Kendal Mental Health Services
Like many other charities, non-profits and NGOs in the United Kingdom and abroad, the Lighthouse needs support. Indeed, without gifts, grants, donations and bequests, we would not be able to provide our services. Unquestionably, we are grateful to all our supporters and have a dedicated page to give a ‘shout out’ to as many as possible. Visit Our Supporters page for a selection of our patrons.
