About The Lighthouse Community Mental Health Hub

Why We are Here

Following the closure of South Lakeland Mind in March 2019, there was a big gap left in mental health services in the South Lakes. Public mental health services are so stretched already, despite 1 in 4 of us experiencing mental health problems each year. Because of this, peer support and mental health charities are a lifeline for many.

"This is the first time, in a long time, that I've been able to relax and feel comfortable somewhere other than home".

Who We Are

Peer Support Volunteers: Our services are facilitated by a team of wonderful peer support volunteers, who go above and beyond for our clients. All of these volunteers have lived experience of montal health issues, or have previously worked in a care capacity. Many of our volunteers started out as clients, and now volunteer their time to help others. Click HERE if you are interested in volunteering with us.

Trustees: We have 6 trustees who guide the direction of The Lighthouse. All have lived experience of poor mental health. All have previously volunteered for The Lighthouse (and/or formerly Mind), and some continue to be clients of our drop-in groups alongside volunteering as Trustees and Peer Supporters.

CEO/Director: Maddy Iddon oversees the management of The Lighthouse, from directing services to managing funding and building relationships with other support services in the area. Maddy has self confessed 'imposter syndrome' about being a CEO/Director, but aims to use this to help empower others to dream big, despite their struggles.

Other Roles: We are currently in a phase of expanding our services and plan on introducing many new roles to our organisation, both voluntary and paid (depending on funding!). e.g. coordination of services, fundraising, marketing/social media, admin, etc.
